Toyin Adebola: Passionate, Powerful and Simple.

 Toyin Adebola

HIS love and passion for music made him set  up the — Toyin and Friends, a musical group  , when he came back from the United States  in 2005. Born on January 11, 1969,Toyin Adebola, who is from Ogun State, had his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Gwammaja, and ended up at the Government Technical College, Wudil, Kano. His tertiary education was at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he read technical education. The Chief Executive Officer of Lakeside Energy Limited, who started his musical career as a drummer in 1990, recently organised the Toyin and Friends concert. Themed Worship Unscripted, it featured a lot of gospel artists, including Cohbhams.
Family background: I’m from a polygamous home. I’m the first born of my father. My father worked and retired as a staff of the Ministry of Education, Kano and my mother worked with The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) now called Aviance, also in Kano until she retired about two years ago.

Toyin Adebola talks about what fashion means to him and much more.

Fashion: It has different interpretations depending on who is creating it, but for me, I think fashion is an expression of who you are, well expressed in what you are wearing. I don’t go with what’s in vogue. What is in vogue for me is what I am comfortable with!

Style of dressing: English and simple; a shirt and a nice and comfortable pair of pants, that’s me! But occasionally, I do some native stuff.

Uniqueness of style: Everything about me is basically different. My carriage stands me out. I also hate conforming to what’s in vogue.

Favourite colour: I love brilliant colours, to be precise. I like black and red. I also like white and purple because they are sweet and strong. I love them combined not specific.

Favourite piece of clothing: A nice shirt and trouser. Sometimes a nice denim shirt and khaki pants

Stylish icon(s): Maxwell, he dresses so beautifully. Most times, he’s always on a nice shirt on trousers with jacket. When you see him, one has no choice but to love and respect him.

Role model(s): Rev. Sam Adeyemi, he is my ultimate role model and then musically, it’s Fred Hammond.

Favourite food: Vegetable and fruit Salad.

Favourite designer(s): Base London, because they are not the regular designers. They have very unique designs of Wristwatches and Shoes and I love them because they are not very popular. I also like Diesel.

Most expensive item: My soul!

Most cherished possession: God.

Describe yourself in three words: Passionate, powerful and simple.

Turn on: When everything is just in order

Turn off: Disorderliness and indifference.

Happiest moment(s): When I got a job in Conoil because I waited almost 15 years for that.

Embarrassing moment(s): When my visa to United States was turned down the second time.

Philosophy of life: Life is like one’s best currency. It’s ones most valuable asset, so spend it wisely, do not waste time and be as productive as you can.

If you were given an opportunity to change something in Nigeria, what would it be? Our mindset, it is terrible!

The 16th edition of Worship Unscripted with Toyin&Friends will be holding on the 31st of July, 2011 at the Balmoral, 98 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja. The theme is "Winds of Worship" Time is 4pm prompt. Ministering includes Cobhams, Buchi, Iyke Onka, Simi, Akin Cole, Mulero, V6. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Self-styled hip HOPE artiste J Bones is at the forefront of an emergent wave of contemporary artistes who are bringing a message of hope to Nigeria and indeed the world through motivational music. J Bones’s lyrics incorporates elements of faith while also reflecting the prevailing socioeconomic conditions around us.

The song S.O.S (Save our Souls) talks about the present day issues that every Nigerian knows and most Nigerians face. We have come to accept the situation as normal while those who can resolve it turn a deaf ear as long as they are comfortable. The song inspires that we pray for our Nation and the end of the video projects hope for a 'NEW NIGERIA' , We expect to be there shortly as the Change has begun.

The single is produced by and features fast-rising beat maker Ex-O. Replete with poignant, down-to-earth visualizations of the song’s lyrics, the accompanying music video of the song is directed by up and coming cinematographer ToluccI.

J Bones Ft. EX.O - S.O.S (Save our Souls).flv

Essentials of Goal Setting

(This is an extract from the Musician’s Handbook written by Femi Oyewumi)
Femi Oyewumi

 1. An action plan. You must have career goals, which will help you determine if you are making progress. The music business can be a very tough nut to crack, especially if you have no sense of direction. Many record companies, music publishers, managers, producers, entertainment lawyers, and even booking agents would not work with artistes who have not set any real career goals. They tend to prefer working with musicians who already have their career goals clearly established and are diligently working towards them on their own.
2. Be specific. Before you set out to achieve your goals, you have to know what you really want. Do you have a clear idea of what you are going after? Detailed and clear goals, for example, are selling 10,000 units of your album, playing 15 gigs a month and making at least 500,000 bulks in the first quarter of next year. Such goals help you maintain your focus and keep you on track.
3. Write them down. Do not keep your goals in your head. Put ink to paper. Writing down your goals adds another element of conviction to your intention.
4. Set a deadline. Deadlines have a way of motivating us to act. Set a time limit for achieving each stage of your action plan. Then do whatever it takes to meet those deadlines.
5. Make a list of benefits. You need to answer this question: What is in it for me? From your answer you can compile a list of ways you will benefit from achieving the goal (or goals). When you have a goal that is fuelled by a genuine desire and true belief in your ability to attain it and enjoy the benefits, you will be energized and ready to take on the challenges.
6. Anticipate the obstacles. Make no mistake; there will be bumps along the road. Things can go wrong, people may disappoint you and schedules move slower than you expect. Do not let anything stop you! Try to consider before hand some of the difficulties you will face and then imagine how you will deal with them effectively.
7. Identify all the information, people and organizations that can help you achieve your goal. Start gathering data on the people, places and information sources you will most likely need. Some of these are clubs, churches, agents, radio stations, magazines, graphic artists, producers, etc. You cannot do it on your own. Remember, it is a business involving people and timely information which enables you to achieve your goal faster.
8. Create your action plan. Now write your first draft of your action plan. Start with the goal itself and work backwards through the process. Keep breaking every stage of the plan down into its most basic tasks such as phone calls, packages to be mailed, booking studio time, setting up meetings, writing songs, etc. Then make a short list of your priorities, which are the things that have to be done first following basic, attainable steps.
9. Act now! Finally, and most importantly, you have to work on the plan you have created. A lot of great ideas have sadly withered away because the person who came up with them never took action. Do not let this be your fate. Putting the art and craft of goal setting to work fires your desire and boosts your abilities to get what you want from life immensely.
Friends do not slack, Do something Now.
